Mommenpop Blood Orange is a California citrus aperitif, bottled at 17% ABV. Mommenpop is a Napa Valley company founded by winemaker Samantha Sheehan with her husband, designer Michael McDermott.
It is made with organic Tarocco and Sanguinelli blood oranges from Murray Family Farms in California; the Tarocco is the sweetest of the blood oranges, with tangy notes of raspberry. About 5,000 pounds of blood and navel oranges go into Mommenpop.
The base wine is a floral, delicate Barbera rosé from Mendocino grapes with long hang times and high acidity, giving it a citrus-like character that supports the oranges.
It smells of hibiscus, burgundy peppercorn and baking spices, and tastes of liquid blood orange peel, wild cherries and red berry compote: refreshing, rich and vibrant, peppery and floral with a subtle warmth.
It is delicious before dinner with olives, during dinner with pasta, and after dinner with salted dark chocolate.

How to Enjoy It
Serve Mommenpop Blood Orange well chilled over ice with a twist of orange, or top it with soda water or tonic for a light spritz. Add sparkling wine for a ruby brunch spritz, or use it in place of vermouth in a Negroni or a Manhattan for a citrusy twist. Mommenpop pairs it with olives, salami and dark chocolate with sea salt, and it is lovely alongside a simmering tomato sauce and pasta. Store it in a cool, dry place and refrigerate once opened.
