Monkey 47 Distiller's Cut Fleur de Sel is a limited-edition Schwarzwald dry gin from Germany's Black Forest, adding hand-harvested fleur de sel from the Camargue to the classic Monkey 47 recipe, bottled at 47% ABV.
Each year Black Forest Distillers hunts for a species rara, a unique 48th botanical, to join the 47 botanicals of the original Monkey 47. For this edition it chose delicate sea-salt crystals harvested from the pink-hued salt marshes of the Camargue in southern France, adding a marine, mineral lift. Like the original, it is non-chill filtered and uncoloured.
Crisp, saline and subtly herbaceous, it shows a refined dry-gin character with coastal freshness and depth.
A collectible annual release in its presentation box, it makes a fine gift for gin lovers.
Enjoy it neat over ice, in an elevated gin and tonic or in a Martini.
Gin is a spirit flavoured predominantly with juniper; a dry gin has no added sweetening after distillation.
Monkey 47 takes its name from its 47 botanicals and its 47% strength, and its original recipe includes local Black Forest ingredients such as lingonberries, spruce shoots and elderflower.
Fleur de sel is the delicate top layer of crystals skimmed by hand from salt pans, prized by chefs for its fine texture and clean mineral flavour.
At 375ml, the Distiller's Cut is released in small numbers each year, making it a favourite among collectors.
A few drops of water or a large ice cube open up the botanicals, and a classic Martini lets the saline note shine.
