Nc'nean Huntress Orchard Cobbler is the 2024 release of the distillery's Huntress series, an organic single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 48.5% ABV, non-chill filtered and at natural colour.
The spirit comes from Nc'nean's annual changeover week, when the fruity compounds in the new make spike, giving this bottling its bright orchard character. The casks were filled in August 2019 and the whisky was bottled in March 2024.
It matured in a mix of 66% STR red wine casks, 31% ex-American whiskey casks and 3% oloroso sherry casks, a combination that layers red fruit and vanilla over the fruity spirit.
Expect Cherry Bakewell, apricot marmalade and vanilla custard, with peppermint tea on the side. On the nose come pear drops, candied lemon peel and ginger biscuits; the palate brings apple skin, clove and chocolate-coated raisin; and the finish is medium-long with woody vanilla.
Presented in its illustrated tube, it makes a lovely gift for fans of fruity, modern single malts.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
