NED Australian Whisky is a corn-led sour mash whisky made grain-to-bottle in Melbourne from 100% Australian corn, wheat and barley, double distilled, aged in American white oak and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Australia deserves a whisky that reflects its people, and NED was built to be that whisky. It is named for Ned Kelly, the country's most famous outlaw. As Ben Hunting, Head of Distillation and Maturation, puts it, Kelly was all about doing things his own way, and that is why he is the icon of this whisky: fiercely independent and unlike anything that has come before it.
NED takes inspiration from American whiskey and uses bourbon production techniques, without cutting corners. The mash bill is led by Australian corn with supporting wheat and barley, sourced from local farmers. The grain is milled, brewed and distilled on site using the sour mash fermentation technique, double distilled, and every batch is tasted by the team before it enters the barrel.
It then ages in American white oak in Melbourne's dynamic climate until it has its signature boldness and character. Expect sweet oak, spicy grain, dried fruit, mocha, vanilla and dry coconut, adding up to a clean, smooth, powerful flavor. Judges awarding it a Silver Medal at the 2021 Australian Distilled Spirits Awards noted caramel and earthy spice, with a sweet palate of corn flakes and toffee.
Crafted for sharing, celebrating and enjoying, NED is not content to sit on the back bar. It belongs in the middle of the action: mixed, stirred and sometimes even shaken.
