New Deal Old Tom Gin is a barrel-rested Old Tom gin from New Deal Distillery in Portland, Oregon, distilled with more than 20 botanicals and rested in Oregon wine barrels, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).
Old Tom is a traditional, lightly sweetened style of gin, and New Deal makes its version the traditional way. The gin is pot distilled in Portland from 100% grain with over 20 botanicals, including rose petal, citrus, juniper and orris root, giving it real botanical depth and texture.
Each small batch then rests in French oak barrels that once held Oregon pinot noir, developing warm, toasted notes and its amber color, a bridge between Portland's craft distilling scene and Oregon's winemaking tradition. The gin spent many years in New Deal's Distiller's Workshop line while the team tweaked the recipe until they had it just right.
Spirits competition judges agree: it won Platinum in Sip Magazine's 2021 Best of the Northwest awards in the Barrel Aged Gin category. Whiskey fans often embrace it for its pronounced barrel character, which brings vanilla, clove and oak notes alongside the botanicals.
Brimming with botanicals as well as warm, toasty notes from the barrel, it is excellent in both spirit-forward drinks and sours. The most classic Old Tom cocktail is the Martinez, and it is just as good on ice with an orange twist or sipped neat.
