Nocaut Reposado is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from Jalisco (NOM 1499), rested about eight months in American oak and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Nocaut is a small Jalisco producer that built its name and its bottle design around boxing, from the knockout name to the crowned crest and World Champion belt on the bottle. The agave is cooked and distilled using traditional methods, then rested in American oak for around eight months, long enough to round off the raw agave edge while keeping it lively.
It reads agave-forward for its age, with vanilla and caramel from the oak, a light char and a touch of black licorice, which keeps it useful as a mixer as well as a sipper.
The championship-belt bottle makes it a knockout gift for boxing fans.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
