Nocheluna Sotol is a wild-harvested sotol from Aldama, Chihuahua, distilled from 100% wild Dasylirion, the desert spoon of the Chihuahuan Desert, and bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV).
Nocheluna is crafted by fourth-generation Maestro Vinatero Don Eduardo "Don Lalo" Arrieta in collaboration with renowned sotol expert Ricardo Pico and master distiller Iván Saldaña, with singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz also part of the project. Made in Aldama, Chihuahua, it honors tradition while drawing on scientific expertise, and its production stays true to artisanal methods from harvest to distillation.
Sotol is not an agave; it is distilled from Dasylirion and may only be made in Chihuahua, Coahuila and Durango. Nocheluna's wild plants are harvested after 12 to 15 years of growth, every one accounted for under a sustainability plan, and in 2019 the brand partnered with academics to establish the largest sotol cultivation field in Chihuahua. The hearts are cooked for 72 to 96 hours in an underground pit lined with river stones, fermented for a week in open-air wooden vats, and double distilled in direct-fire copper pots.
Nocheluna has a pronounced yet versatile profile: fresh minerality and light sweetness balanced by herbal tones, with notes of wild herbs, dried stone fruit, caramel and honey, deep minerality and oak firewood.
Sip it neat to explore the desert terroir, or use it in place of tequila or mezcal in a Paloma, a Margarita or a Negroni variation.
