Oban 11 Year Old, The Soul of Calypso, is a cask-strength Highland single malt from Diageo's Special Releases 2023. It was finished in Caribbean pot still rum casks, a first for the distillery, and is bottled at 58% ABV.
Oban, in the harbour town of the same name on Scotland's west coast, is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. It distils from 100% malted barley and condenses its spirit in traditional outdoor worm tubs, giving a rich, characterful malt that sits between the Highlands and the islands in style.
The nose brings chocolate ice cream, dried mango, gingerbread and spiced apple chutney, with citrus peel, pineapple and papaya. On the palate come vanilla, orange chews, cinnamon and tropical fruit juice, with mango, lychee, salted caramel and lemon bonbons, and the finish brings baking spice and caramel. A few drops of water bring out lime marmalade. Whisky Advocate scored it 90.
Presented in a vivid tube with carnival artwork, it is a collectable piece of the Special Releases series and a striking gift.

Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
