Old Louisville Whiskey Co. Straight Bourbon Uncut Batch 21 is a blend of 10-year-old straight bourbons bottled uncut at barrel strength, 116 proof, and non-chill-filtered. It is made from a high-rye mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley.
Old Louisville Whiskey Co. selects and blends well-aged bourbons and bottles them without dilution to preserve their robust, natural character and full flavour. A decade in charred oak gives this release depth and a rich, viscous texture.
The nose presents caramel, toasted oak, dried fruit and baking spices, with hints of vanilla and nutmeg. On the palate come butterscotch, dark cherry, maple and spiced oak, full-bodied and rich, and the finish is long and bold, with charred oak, sweet caramel and spice.
Presented with a black velvet bag, it makes a handsome gift for bourbon collectors.
Add a few drops of water to open the fruit and spice.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
