Old Overholt 12 Year Old Cask Strength is a limited-edition straight rye whiskey distilled in Kentucky by the James B. Beam Distilling Co., aged a full twelve years and bottled at cask strength of 117 proof (58.5% ABV), without chill filtration.
Old Overholt is one of America's oldest whiskey brands, its story beginning in 1810 in West Overton, Pennsylvania, where farmer Abraham Overholt began distilling rye. This 2025 release was distilled and barrelled in the spring of 2013 and aged across four warehouses in Clermont, Kentucky.
It is known for a rich, oily mouthfeel and a complex profile that balances typical rye spice with a sweeter, more fruit-forward character, with notes of red fruit, oak, caramel and spice.
As the oldest release in Old Overholt's cask-strength series, it is a fine gift for rye enthusiasts.
Sip it neat, add a few drops of water, or build a bold Manhattan.
American rye whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51% rye and aged in new charred oak, giving it a spicier, drier character than bourbon, with notes of pepper, herbs and baking spice.
Twelve years in the barrel is a long time in the warm Kentucky climate, and it shows in the depth of oak and fruit in the glass.
