Old Overholt is America's oldest continually maintained whiskey brand, a four-year-old straight rye whiskey bottled non-chill filtered at 86 proof (43% ABV), here in a one-liter bottle.
Old Overholt traces its roots to 1810 and to Abraham Overholt (1784–1870), one of the fathers of American distilling, who lived by three standards: work hard, stand fast and don't waver. After Prohibition it became one of the most popular spirits in the country. The label still reads born in PA, made in KY, a nod to its Pennsylvania origins.
Today Old Overholt is made at the Jim Beam distillery in Clermont, Kentucky, and aged four years in new charred oak. Since 2020 it has been bottled non-chill filtered at 86 proof, which keeps more of the rye's texture and flavor.
With a rich taste and a tinge of sweetness, it shows rye spice, black pepper and a touch of caramel and vanilla from the oak, finishing dry and spicy.
Old Overholt is renowned for its outstanding mixability in classic cocktails like the Sazerac and the old-style Manhattan. Stir it with sweet vermouth and Angostura bitters, or with Peychaud's bitters and a rinse of absinthe, and it shines. It also makes a crisp Old Fashioned, a Whiskey Sour, a Ward Eight or a simple rye and ginger. The one-liter bottle is ideal for home bartenders and parties where the cocktails keep flowing. Pair it with barbecue, smoked sausage, aged cheddar or pecan pie. A relic you can drink, Old Overholt is a piece of American whiskey history at an everyday price point.
