Old Settler Camp No. 1 Blend is an old-fashioned sour mash, high-rye Kentucky straight bourbon, hand selected for its power and purity and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).
The bourbon reflects the strength and determination of pioneer ancestors, a reminder that hard work and an adventurous spirit lead to success. Camp No. 1 was the first chapter in the Old Settler journey, later followed by Camp No. 2.
It shows a pure auburn-mahogany colour rimmed by a halo of yellow gold. Classic aromas of toasty oak, vanilla, dried plum, raisin and maple-caramel are complemented by hints of tobacco and baking spice, with peanut brittle and cedar-kissed peach. On the tongue, a laser beam of tea tannins merges with the spiced, sour flavour of apple cider, then cigar leaf and mocha meet cookie batter and oak resin on the finish: potent at 100 proof, but well mannered.
Rated 93 points by Tastings.com, it makes a fine gift for bourbon lovers.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
