Opus One Napa Valley Red in the 1.5L magnum is the large-format bottling of the Bordeaux-style blend from Opus One Winery in Oakville, California.
Each vintage is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with Bordeaux varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, and aged in French oak.
The magnum is prized by collectors: the larger volume of wine relative to the air beneath the cork means slower, more graceful development in the bottle.
That gives the magnum a longer life in the cellar than the standard 750ml bottle.
Opus One was founded in 1979 as a partnership between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild, joining Napa Valley fruit with Bordeaux tradition. The label carries both founders' signatures and profiles, and a magnum of Opus One is a centrepiece bottle for a long dinner with friends, a wedding or a landmark celebration.

How to Enjoy It
Decant the magnum for one to two hours and serve at around 16 to 18°C in large Bordeaux glasses. A magnum pours about twelve glasses, ideal for a dinner party. Pair it with prime rib, grilled lamb chops, beef Wellington, braised short ribs and aged hard cheeses. Store the bottle on its side in a cool, dark place away from vibration, and chill it for a few hours before opening. A bottle of this standing makes a memorable gift for a milestone birthday, an anniversary, a wedding or a promotion.
