Opus One Overture 2023 is the second wine of Opus One Winery in Oakville, Napa Valley, a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
It is sourced from the same estate blocks as Opus One itself, but is made to be softer and more approachable in its youth.
Overture was traditionally a multi-vintage blend; with the 2021 and later releases it has moved to a single vintage, and the 2023 was released on October 1, 2026.
It opens with ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry, with cedar, chocolate and espresso, on a silky, medium-bodied palate, after 19 months in barrique.
Opus One was founded in 1979 by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, and Overture offers a taste of that estate's style at a friendlier moment in its life. It is a generous, polished red to open tonight, and a handsome gift for anyone who loves Napa Cabernet.
Good wine rewards a little care in serving. Whites and rosés show best chilled to around 45 to 50°F, while reds are at their most expressive slightly below room temperature, around 60 to 65°F. Opening the bottle and letting it breathe for a few minutes, or pouring it into a decanter, helps the aromas open up.

How to Enjoy It
Serve at around 16 to 18°C in Bordeaux glasses; a short decant of 30 minutes helps it open. Pair it with grilled steak, lamb burgers, roast chicken, mushroom pasta and hard cheeses. Store the bottle on its side in a cool, dark place, and chill it for a few hours before opening. A bottle of this standing makes a memorable gift for a milestone birthday, an anniversary, a wedding or a promotion.
