Padre Azul Añejo is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from the Tequila Valley of Jalisco, aged at least 18 months in hand-selected bourbon oak barrels and bottled at 40% ABV.
Padre Azul's agaves grow longer than required, up to 10 years, before harvest. The tequila is made at the Tres Mujeres distillery in the Amatitán Valley near the town of Tequila (NOM 1466), where Padre Azul has its own dedicated fermentation tanks and stills. The agave is cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed with a roller mill, fermented spontaneously in stainless steel tanks and distilled twice in stainless steel pot stills.
It pours yellow-amber with hints of orange and a heavy body. Aromas of coffee, burnt caramel, vanilla and caramelized nuts give way to dried cherry, apricot and sweet agave. The palate is complex yet balanced, with vanilla, caramel, chocolate, cinnamon and dried fruit, and the finish is extremely long and smooth.
Its striking skull-topped bottle makes it an unforgettable gift. It is also kosher and gluten-free.
Sip it neat, slowly, at room temperature.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
