Padre Azul Extra Añejo is a super premium tequila made from 100% Blue Weber agave and aged for at least 39 months in hand-selected bourbon barrels. It is bottled at 40% ABV in Padre Azul's signature bottle, crowned with a metal skull and dressed in a leather-jacket-style design.
The skull is central to Padre Azul's identity, a nod to Mexico's Día de los Muertos tradition, and the bottle's black body with its winged emblem makes it one of the most recognisable on any back bar. The extra añejo is the most mature expression in the range, which also includes reposado, añejo and cristalino.
On the nose come cooked agave with hints of vanilla and fruit compote. The palate is smooth and velvety, with cooked agave, vanilla, apricot and faint cinnamon, caramel and chocolate, and the finish is long and smooth, its sweetness lingering. The extra añejo received 98 points from Cigar & Spirits Magazine.
It is a bold gift for a tequila lover and a striking piece for any collection.
Pour it slowly and enjoy the depth that more than three years in bourbon barrels brings to the agave; the bottle itself makes a memorable display piece once the tequila is gone.
