Padró & Co. Blanco Reserva is an elegant white vermouth from Catalonia, Spain, made with an infusion of aromatic herbs and citrus peels, blended with aged white mistela and aged in barrel before bottling, at 36 proof (18% ABV).
The making and selling of vermouth in Catalonia has been documented since the second half of the nineteenth century, when the export of wine and local brandies from the area around Tarragona was taking off and vermouth took root as a new wine product. Padró & Co. makes five styles of vermouth at its winery, each with its own singular flavor.
Blanco Reserva, Exceptional Elegance, was inspired by the desire to make a vermouth enhanced with the Mediterranean citrus aromas so intrinsic to the area around the winery. An infusion of aromatic herbs is blended with the peel of several different citrus fruits. After several months of maceration, an aged white mistela, a sweet wine kept especially for this vermouth, is added, and the vermouth is aged in barrel before bottling.
The nose is aromatically intense and very pleasant, with memories of sweet herbs such as star anise, lemon verbena, quina and angelica, both well balanced and complex. The palate is elegant, smooth, refined and well rounded, with a slight sweetness and a certain bitterness, and an elegant citrus finish brings freshness and a superb aftertaste with a gourmet touch.
Serve it well chilled with a twist of lemon peel, over ice with a splash of soda, or use it in a White Negroni or a vermouth spritz. The ornate turquoise-and-gold bottle makes a beautiful gift.
