Pearse The Original is a blended 5-year-old Irish whiskey of malt and grain from the Pearse Lyons Distillery in Dublin, aged in Town Branch Kentucky ex-bourbon barrels from its sister distillery in Lexington.
The Pearse Lyons Distillery is housed in the restored St. James' Church in Dublin's historic Liberties district, opened in 2017 after years of restoration of the old, dilapidated church. It was Pearse Lyons' dream of a distillery in Ireland, joining Irish whiskey tradition with Kentucky distilling know-how. The Original is a grain and malt blend that contains malt whiskey produced in the distillery's own stills, and every barrel comes from Town Branch in Lexington, Kentucky.
Relaxing on the nose, with a slight citrus note, a wisp of smoke and light honeyed fruit with floral tones. The light, smooth palate has a hint of spearmint that warms to semi-sweet chocolate, light oak, creamy vanilla and light caramel, with a mild malt character and a crisp, smooth spice finish.
The green-and-gold label makes it a handsome gift.
