Père Magloire Fine VS is a young, fruit-forward Calvados made from 100% Normandy cider apples, aged at least two years in French oak and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Père Magloire has been distilling Calvados and perfecting the process since 1821, making it one of the oldest Calvados houses in France. It produces authentic, generous apple brandies that have won competitions worldwide, and the Fine VS is the youngest and most vibrant expression in its range.
Calvados is Normandy's apple brandy. For the Fine VS, cider from carefully selected Normandy cider apples is distilled in a single continuous distillation, which preserves fresh apple notes, then aged for a minimum of two years in French oak.
Normandy's apple orchards and cider makers date back as far as the 8th century, and distilling arrived in the 16th. Calvados is defined by both age and geography, with three appellations: AOC Calvados, AOC Calvados Domfrontais and AOC Calvados Pays d'Auge. Père Magloire's older VSOP steps up to ciders solely from the Pays d'Auge, double distilled in pot stills, while the Fine VS keeps the focus on bright, youthful fruit.
Delicate and light amber-yellow in the glass, it shows a well-developed fresh apple aroma and a straightforward, distinctly fruity palate, crisp and fruit-forward rather than heavily oaked. It won a Gold Medal at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
An approachable and versatile introduction to one of France's oldest spirits traditions, it is ideal for both sipping and mixing: try it neat as an aperitif, with tonic, or in a Jack Rose or an apple-forward Sidecar.
