Pinhook Bohemian High Proof is a limited annual release of Pinhook's flagship Bourbondini vintage, a small selection of the brand's finest barrels blended for whiskey enthusiasts and bottled at 116 proof (58% ABV).
Distilled at the Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, and blended by co-founder and master blender Sean Josephs, it is made from a mash bill of 75% corn, 15% rye and 10% malted barley and aged three years. Each year Pinhook selects and blends its barrels and finds the perfect proof for each expression, giving the vintage a character as unique as the thoroughbred on the label; each release is named for a racehorse, with the horse's stats printed on the bottle.
It bursts with aromas of fresh fig, apple cider, marzipan and clove, preceding a rich palate of dried papaya, coffee, cinnamon and burnt caramel. Light, fruity and full of fire, it brings flavors rarely found in most bourbons.
The racehorse label makes it a collectible gift for bourbon and horse racing fans.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
