Pinhook Bourbon Vertical Series 2025 is the 10-year-old installment of Pinhook's Vertical Series, a cask-strength straight bourbon bottled at 115.9 proof (57.95% ABV).
The Vertical Series is an unprecedented exploration of the impact of age on bourbon, following the same group of barrels, originally distilled at MGP, as they age from year to year, with one release each year. This 2025 bottling marks a milestone as the series reaches double-digit maturation, and it features the thoroughbred Bourbon War on the label: Pinhook takes its name from the horse-racing practice of pinhooking, buying young thoroughbreds to raise and sell.
The high-rye bourbon shows a deepening maturity, balancing rich oak with spice and fruit complexity developed over a full decade in the barrel.
A collector's release for anyone following the Vertical Series, and a fine gift for bourbon lovers.
Sip it neat, then add a little water to open it.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
Straight bourbon must be aged at least two years in new charred oak, and every additional year in the barrel adds colour, sweetness and oak structure while the spirit loses volume to evaporation, the angel's share. Tasting the same barrels at different ages, as the Vertical Series allows, is a rare way to see that process at work.
