Planteray Barbados 5 Year, formerly known as Plantation Grande Réserve, is a blend of Barbados rums aged five years in bourbon casks in the Caribbean and then refined in small French oak casks at Château de Bonbonnet, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
The rum celebrates Barbados, the birthplace of rum, and showcases the brand's signature double-aging technique: tropical aging in ex-bourbon casks, then a crossing to Château de Bonbonnet in France for further maturation in old French oak barrels. The result is a complex, well-balanced rum that works exceptionally well as a neat sipper or a premium cocktail mixer.
Its succulent nose, typical of the Barbados style, shows toasted coconut, fudge, ripe tropical fruit and vanilla. The exceedingly smooth palate opens with creamy vanilla, toasted marshmallow and vanilla wafer, winding into a long finish tinged with espresso and allspice.
The rope-wrapped bottle makes it a classic gift.
Aged rum is one of the most diverse spirits in the world, shaped by the sugarcane, the still and the warm climates where it matures, which speed up the interaction between spirit and wood.
Barbados is known as the birthplace of rum.
Double aging layers tropical and French oak influences.
It pairs with dark chocolate, pecan pie or grilled pineapple.
It makes an excellent Rum Old Fashioned.
It is a crowd-pleasing gift for rum fans.
