Próspero Añejo is a 100% agave tequila aged a minimum of 12 months in oak barrels, crafted by master distiller Stella Anguiano and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Próspero was co-founded by pop star Rita Ora, and it is made by Stella Anguiano, one of the few female master distillers in tequila. The tequila is born of the volcanic soil of the Tequila valley in Jalisco.
A year or more in oak gives the añejo flavors of spice, toasted caramel, cacao and roasted fruit, layered over its agave base. It was rated 97 points, Superb, by Wine Enthusiast and selected as one of its Top 100 Spirits of 2019.
Its colorful label, with a rider on a painted horse, makes it a joyful gift.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
