Puncher's Chance is a Kentucky straight bourbon inspired by two great American traditions, whiskey and fighting for what we believe in, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).
The name is a boxing reference: almost anyone can deliver a knockout punch, no matter the odds, particularly if that punch is delivered with perfect balance. That idea of perfect balance runs through the whiskey, where sweet, spicy, fruity and savory notes are meant to sing in harmony, with none outshining another. The brand comes from Wolf Spirit Distillery in Eugene, Oregon, founded by Umberto Luchini, and counts Bruce Buffer, the Voice of Mixed Martial Arts, as a partner.
The bourbon is a marriage of five- and six-year-old Kentucky straight bourbons, put together by master distiller Kevin Curtis from a mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley. It earned a 95-point review from The Tasting Panel in January 2021. It is made with heart and honor for those who know how far they've come: those who started early and stayed late, day after day.
In the glass it is a burnt amber. The nose is earthy, with vanilla, caramel, peanut and baking spices, primarily nutmeg. The palate leads with caramel, creamy vanilla, molasses and black and white pepper, spicy and slightly sweet, and the finish is smooth and of medium length, with an earthy, peppery flair.
