Quita Penas Blanco is an unaged 100% blue Weber agave tequila from Tequilera Corralejo (NOM 1368) in Pénjamo, Guanajuato, double distilled in copper pot stills and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV) in a 1-liter bottle.
Corralejo is one of the few tequila producers working outside Jalisco, in Guanajuato, the state where Mexico's independence movement began. Quita Penas means roughly "takes away sorrows," a tequila made to lift the spirits, rejuvenate the old, inspire the young and chase away weariness. The agave is cooked in autoclaves, extracted with a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel and double distilled in copper pot stills, then bottled without aging to keep its bright character.
Smooth, fruity, sweet and herbal on the nose with pepper, it brings crisp citrus, green herbs, fresh-cut agave and black pepper on the palate, a profile made for Margaritas and Palomas.
The tall bottle with its blue figure makes it a fun party gift.
Blanco tequila is bottled unaged or rested for less than two months, so it shows the agave at its purest: bright, peppery and fresh. It is the classic choice for margaritas and palomas, and a good blanco is just as rewarding sipped neat.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
The 1-liter bottle is perfect for parties.
A squeeze of lime and pinch of salt make a classic serve.
