Red Door Highland Gin is a small-batch gin from Benromach Distillery in Forres, Scotland, vapour-infused with Highland botanicals including rowan berries, heather and sea buckthorn, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).
Red Door is named after the distinctive red doors of the Benromach Distillery, the Speyside whisky distillery owned by Gordon & MacPhail. It was launched in July 2018 as a handcrafted, small-batch gin that captures the landscape of the Scottish Highlands.
The gin is made in a copper pot still called Peggy, where the neutral base spirit is steamed through a basket of botanicals in a vapour-infused distillation. The botanicals include juniper, rowan berries, heather pearls, sea buckthorn, bitter orange, lemon peel, coriander seed and angelica root.
Expect juniper and bright citrus on the nose, with floral heather and tart rowan berry. The palate is crisp and aromatic, with sea buckthorn and orange, and the finish is clean and lightly spicy.
Red Door is a superb gin for a Gin and Tonic: pour it over plenty of ice, top it with a light tonic and garnish with a wedge of orange or a few fresh raspberries. It also makes a crisp dry Martini, a bright Negroni, a Tom Collins or a Bramble with blackberry liqueur. Pair it with smoked salmon, oysters, Scottish shellfish, goat cheese or a citrus salad. The bold red bottle, with its embossed details and handcrafted Highland label, makes Red Door a beautiful gift and a standout on any bar cart, especially for anyone who loves Scotland and its spirits.
