Redwood Empire Screaming Titan is a small-lot wheated bourbon from Northern California, made from a four-grain mash bill of at least 30% wheat, aged at least five years and bottled at 96 proof (48% ABV).
Redwood Empire distils in Sonoma County, California, in a region that stretches from San Francisco to Humboldt Bay and on to the Oregon border, home to majestic coastal redwoods, some more than 350 feet high and 2,000 years old. Ageing its barrels in the temperate climate of the Northern California coast allows a slow, even extraction of flavour, producing whiskey of balance and complexity. This small lot release is composed of hand-selected barrels and is a testament to the distillery's passion, patience and pioneering spirit.
The Screaming Titan is a multi-stem coastal redwood rising over 323 feet from the forest floor in the Grove of Titans, a short hike from the Lost Monarch. Forestry professor Stephen C. Sillett named it after naturalist Michael W. Taylor, who screamed when he first spotted the grove. A high wheat content gives a soft, rounded bourbon.
Named for one of the world's great trees, it makes a memorable gift.
Sip it neat or with a single large ice cube.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
