Remus Repeal Reserve Series VI is the 2022 edition of the annual limited release from Ross & Squibb Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, celebrating the repeal of Prohibition. It is a medley of five straight bourbons from two high-rye mash bills, bottled at 100 proof.
The 2022 medley combines 2% 2008 bourbon (21% rye), 27% 2012 bourbon (21% rye), 29% 2014 bourbon (21% rye), 17% 2012 bourbon (36% rye) and 25% 2014 bourbon (36% rye). The series honours George Remus, the Prohibition-era lawyer turned bootlegger who once owned distilleries in the area, and its Art Deco bottle evokes the 1920s.
The aroma brings a hint of nutmeg and saddle leather. The taste offers candied fruit, fig jam, oak and barrel char, mint and slight caramel, nutmeg, toffee and honey, and the finish brings sweet candied fruit and leather, with a lingering sweetness and rye spice.
The striking Art Deco bottle makes it a handsome gift for bourbon collectors.
Enjoy it neat or with a single ice cube.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
