Revel Avila Añejo is a 100% Blue Weber agave spirit from Morelos, Mexico, made from a blend of roasted and steamed piñas, triple distilled and rested for 24 months in French oak barrels. It is bottled at 96 proof.
Because it is made in Morelos, outside the tequila appellation, Revel calls its spirit Avila. The production is meticulous: combining roasted and steamed agave adds layers of flavour, triple distillation refines the spirit, and two years in new French oak give it a character often compared to cognac.
The result has intense complexity, with caramel, dried fruit and cognac-like nuances. Oak and barrel char lead on the nose, the palate brings toasted coconut and almond, and the finish offers cardamom, black pepper, black tea, vanilla and chocolate with a slight smoky edge.
The square, heavy glass bottle with its minimalist Revel logo and crystal-style stopper makes it a refined gift for an agave lover.
Sip it neat from a snifter, or use it to elevate an old fashioned.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
