Rhum J.M XO is a très vieux rhum agricole from Martinique, aged for six years in ex-bourbon oak barrels and bottled at 45% ABV under the AOC Martinique designation.
Rhum J.M is produced at Habitation Bellevue, an estate distillery on Martinique's northernmost tip in the Macouba district, at the base of Montagne Pelée, whose nutrient-rich volcanic soils give J.M's rhums their mineral quality. As a rhum agricole, it is distilled from freshly pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses, using column distillation.
The XO is the flagship aged expression of the estate, matured in re-charred bourbon barrels of various toasts for a spiced, powerful profile.
Golden in colour, it offers fruity notes of candied fruit, dried fruit, jam and spice on the nose, and a complex, round palate. It is an elegant gift for rum connoisseurs.
Sip it neat or with a single ice cube.
Aged rum is one of the most diverse spirits in the world, shaped by the sugarcane, the still and the warm climates where it matures, which speed up the interaction between spirit and wood.
The AOC Martinique designation, the only appellation of origin for rum in France, sets strict rules for growing the sugarcane, fermenting the juice and distilling the rhum.
An XO rhum agricole must be aged at least six years in oak.
