Riazul Reposado is a highland tequila from Arandas, Jalisco, made from 100% agave and aged nine months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Riazul was founded by Iñaki Orozco, who inherited land in the Jalisco Highlands handed down by a family of Mexican revolutionaries and recognised it as an ideal place to grow agave and make tequila. His ancestor, María Higinia Gómez, served as a counsellor to the rebel leaders of Mexico's independence and was granted land for her service; the 250 acres the family kept became the home of Riazul.
The tequila is produced at Compañía Tequilera de Arandas under NOM 1460, using estate-owned agave grown in the mineral-rich red clay soils of the highlands. The dual-barrel ageing adds layers of complexity while keeping the soft, approachable character that sets this reposado apart, and it has earned 93 points from the Beverage Testing Institute.
The nose offers sweet fruits and white flowers with inviting notes of vanilla and light oak. The palate brings Meyer lemon, white flowers, vanilla and oak, with hints of honey and caramel, and the finish is dry and slightly sweet, with lingering citrus.
Its tall, elegant bottle makes Riazul Reposado a handsome gift.
