Robert Mondavi Winery Napa Valley Red Blend 2019 is a supple, dark red blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, at 15% ABV.
The hand-harvested fruit comes from Oakville's deep, well-drained soils and from sites across Napa Valley from St. Helena to Carneros, including Stags Leap District, Oak Knoll, Yountville and Rutherford.
It was aged 22 months in French oak barrels, 74% new.
Ripe plum, black cherry, cedar and graham cracker lead to sweet tobacco, dried herbs, blackberry, dark chocolate, toast and coffee.
Concentrated and rich with a long, velvety finish, it is a fine gift from a Napa icon established in 1966.
Good wine rewards a little care in serving. Whites and rosés show best chilled to around 45 to 50°F, while reds are at their most expressive slightly below room temperature, around 60 to 65°F. Opening the bottle and letting it breathe for a few minutes, or pouring it into a decanter, helps the aromas open up.
