Ron Abuelo Centuria is the flagship of Panama's Varela Hermanos, created to celebrate a century of the family's distilling heritage. It is a blend of rums aged in a solera system with rums up to 30 years old, bottled at 40% ABV.
Varela Hermanos was founded in the town of Pesé, in Panama's Herrera province, where the family first produced sugar before turning to rum. In the solera method, rums of different ages are blended in stages so that a little of the oldest rum is always part of each bottling, giving Centuria remarkable depth and continuity.
The nose is thick and rich, with molasses and black treacle, wood, tobacco, nuts, orange, brown sugar and sweet spices. The palate is smooth and fruity, like apple strudel, with juicy sultanas, nutmeg and cinnamon, and the finish brings prunes and walnut.
Presented in an elegant burgundy gift box, Centuria is a superb gift for rum lovers.
