Ron Carúpano Añejo Reserva Especial is a six-year-old Venezuelan rum from Destilería Carúpano, bottled at 40% ABV.
It is crafted in the historic Macarapana Valley of Sucre, Venezuela, by a house whose label dates it to 1762, and it carries the D.O.C. Ron de Venezuela protected designation of origin.
It is aged in sealed white American oak barrels without topping up the angels' share, and the humid coastal climate speeds the spirit's interaction with the oak.
Master blender Carmen López de Bastidas created it to show the fresh, lively side of shorter maturation while keeping the distillery's complexity and coastal salinity.
Light amber with orange glints, it offers sugar cane, pineapple and citrus, a sweet entry and a warm finish, and it won a silver medal at the 2022 Bartender Spirits Awards.
Aged rum is one of the most diverse spirits in the world, shaped by the sugarcane, the still and the warm climates where it matures, which speed up the interaction between spirit and wood.
