Ron Izalco 18 Year Old Cask Strength Private Reserve is a Central American rum aged a minimum of 18 years and bottled at cask strength; this bottling is 65.1% ABV.
Inspired by the volcanic region of Izalco in El Salvador, Ron Izalco brings together mature Central American rums from cane grown in mineral-rich black volcanic soil. This Private Reserve is bottled at full strength with no added sugar, colouring or additives, giving a full-bodied, intense sipping experience.
It builds a concentrated profile of apricot, prune, honey, caramel, brown sugar and baked pineapple, with baking spice, charred American oak, tobacco, molasses and dark fruit. The high proof gives it serious structure while still letting the fruit, oak and sweetness unfold in balance.
An old, cask-strength rum, it makes an impressive gift for rum and whisky collectors.
Sip it neat and add water a few drops at a time.
Aged rum is one of the most diverse spirits in the world, shaped by the sugarcane, the still and the warm climates where it matures, which speed up the interaction between spirit and wood.
Cask strength means the rum is bottled as it came from the barrel, without being diluted to a standard strength, so a little water can open up further aromas.
Eighteen years is a long life for rum in the tropics, where heat speeds maturation and the angels' share is high; the result is a dense, oak-rich spirit closer in character to an old whisky.
Central American rums are typically made from sugar cane molasses and distilled in column stills, producing a clean spirit that takes on deep flavour from long ageing.
