Ron Zacapa XO is a Guatemalan rum crafted from the first press of sugar cane, known as virgin sugar cane honey, and aged at 2,300 metres above sea level, 'above the clouds', where the cool mountain air slows maturation. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
Zacapa XO is an exclusive blend of reserve rums aged between 10 and 25 years in Zacapa's dynamic Sistema Solera. Older and younger rums are blended as they age in a sequence of barrels that previously held robust American whiskeys, delicate sherries and fine Pedro Ximénez wines, and the blend is finished in French oak casks that once aged cognac.
The result is a unique balance of complex aromas and flavours, layered by each type of cask in the solera, and it pairs beautifully with dark chocolate and desserts.
Presented in its gold-topped decanter and gift box, Zacapa XO is a superb gift for rum lovers.
Zacapa XO is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
Aged rum is one of the most diverse spirits in the world, shaped by the sugarcane, the still and the warm climates where it matures, which speed up the interaction between spirit and wood.
Guatemala's rum tradition is built on sugar cane grown in the hot lowlands near the Pacific coast, while ageing takes place high in the mountains, where the cool, thin air slows the interaction between rum and wood. The solera method blends rums of different ages in stages, so that older rum is always part of each bottling, giving Zacapa XO remarkable consistency and depth.
