Sam Smith's Boatyard Rum is a Caribbean-style rum from Cooperstown Distillery in upstate New York, made from 100% sugar cane, aged a minimum of two years and bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV).
The rum takes its name from Sam Smith's Boatyard, the heart of Otsego Lake's nautical community since 1956. The boatyard is a full-service marine facility on the historic lake near Cooperstown, with storage, maintenance, a bait and tackle shed and a fleet of rental boats.
Cooperstown Distillery employs high-quality artisanal distilling practices and works to know its farmers, making a full line of spirits largely from New York State grains. As a farm distillery, it builds its spirits from select ingredients grown by people it trusts and respects. For this rum, it turns to sugar cane, crafting a Caribbean-style spirit and resting it in barrels for at least two years.
The result drinks delightfully smooth, with soft spice notes on the nose and the faintest hint of vanilla on the finish. Deep amber with golden hues, it shows caramel, vanilla and oak: a classy, sophisticated rum with a smooth, clean profile.
Sip it neat or on the rocks, or mix a Daiquiri, a Mojito or a Dark and Stormy for a lakeside afternoon.
Aged rum is one of the most diverse spirits in the world, shaped by the sugarcane, the still and the warm climates where it matures, which speed up the interaction between spirit and wood.
