San Matías Tahona Añejo is a tahona-crafted añejo tequila from Casa San Matías, one of Mexico's oldest distilleries, bottled at 40% ABV.

Casa San Matías has honoured tequila tradition for over 130 years and remains funded by 100% Mexican capital. The tahona process, milling the cooked agave with a traditional stone wheel, yields a mineral-rich agave character that carries through the añejo's oak ageing.

The result is a sweet, slightly sapid tequila with great minerality, moderate acidity and no bitterness.

Presented in a squat bottle with an illustrated label, it is a fine gift for lovers of traditional, tahona-made tequila.

Sip it neat or over a large ice cube.

Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.

Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.

Tequila must be made from blue Weber agave grown in designated areas of Mexico, chiefly Jalisco.

An añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels, which softens the spirit and adds depth.
