Sangre Alteña Reposado Extra Premium is a 100% blue agave tequila from the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, rested ten months in French oak barrels and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Sangre Alteña means Highland Blood, and the tequila stays true to that heritage. It is crafted only from selected Tequilana Weber var. Azul agave, matured for a minimum of six years in Jalisco's Los Altos region, where the famous iron-rich red soil gives the high-altitude agave a natural, floral sweetness. It is produced under NOM 1515.
The agave is cooked for 60 hours in stone ovens and processed with a roller mill. Fermentation happens slowly in open tanks with a yeast strain specific to Sangre Alteña, followed by a discontinuous double distillation where only the heart is used. The reposado then rests for ten months in French oak barrels, which imparts a refined profile and bridges the vibrant energy of a blanco with the depth of a well-aged spirit.
Bright yellow gold with a firm body, it offers vanilla aromas, cooked agave and woody notes. The palate shows a slight sweet wood flavor with touches of cooked agave and warm, spicy notes from the oak, in perfect balance, leading to a smooth, rich finish of oak and caramel.
The square bottle with its leather-tied stopper makes a handsome gift. It is best enjoyed neat or on a large rock to let the wood notes unfurl, and it elevates a premium Margarita.
