Santaleza Reposado is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from the Highlands of Jalisco, aged at least four months in American oak and bottled at 40% ABV.
Santaleza is produced at Destiladora Bonanza (NOM 1604) in Los Altos de Jalisco, whose rich, mineral-filled red soil gives the agave the best nutrients and climate. Mature agaves are slow-cooked in a traditional masonry oven for 72 hours, then crushed under a 135-year-old volcanic stone tahona, a family heirloom pulled by a mechanical apparatus fitted with a donkey head nicknamed Pepe.
Starting from an exceptional blanco, the reposado rests in oak to add warmth and depth, honouring the original production process handed down by the family's ancestors.
A traditional, tahona-made Highland reposado, it makes a fine gift for tequila lovers.
Sip it neat or on the rocks, or use it in a margarita.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
