Santo Añejo is a certified additive-free tequila made from 100% blue Weber agave from the Highlands of Jalisco by creators Sammy Hagar and Guy Fieri, aged an average of 24 months, a year longer than required, and bottled at 40% ABV.
Crafted with time-honoured methods that preserve the heritage of bold flavour from tequila's origins in Mexico centuries ago, this añejo is agave-forward, dimensional and bright.
After resting an average of two years, it shows a sophisticated nose of clove, grapefruit peel and golden pineapple anchored in tobacco resin and soft, creamy vanilla. Silky on the palate, it has a full, long-lasting finish led by peppery cedar, dried desert sage and juicy green melon.
For those tired of the typical, it makes a fine gift for tequila lovers.
Sip it neat or over a large ice cube.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
