Lil' Guero is a 7 year old bourbon whiskey from Savage & Cooke in Northern California, a small-batch blend of 38 barrels bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).
Master distiller Jordan Via selected 38 new charred American oak barrels of bourbon distilled in Indiana and aged for the majority of its life in the coastal conditions at Savage & Cooke. The bourbon is made from a mash of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley, and proofed to 100 with pristine water from Dave's high-elevation property in Alexander Valley, 40 miles from the distillery.
It shows a rich amber hue, with caramel, vanilla and toasted oak on the nose alongside dried fruit and spice. The palate layers caramel, vanilla and butterscotch, with dark chocolate, dried cherries, cinnamon and nutmeg, and the finish is long and warming, with sweet oak, caramel and spice.
A Californian take on a classic high-rye bourbon, it makes a fine gift.

Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
