Sazerac de Forge Vintage 2000 is an unblended Grande Champagne cognac from a single harvest, matured for more than twenty years and bottled at 44.8% ABV. It is the first single-vintage release from the revived house of Sazerac de Forge, drawn from a barrel judged too distinctive to blend.
Sazerac de Forge & Fils traces its roots to the cognac that gave the Sazerac cocktail its name in nineteenth-century New Orleans. Revived by the Sazerac Company, the house released this vintage alongside an XO and a 50 Year Old as a trio celebrating the golden age of cognac. Grande Champagne, the most celebrated growing area of Cognac, gives eaux-de-vie of great finesse and longevity, and a single vintage captures one harvest without blending.
Deep gold in colour, it presents ripe stone fruits, exotic florals and delicate spice with a full, rounded texture. Toffee, almond paste and cinnamon babka join dried apricot, yellow peach, mango and passion fruit on the nose, with orange blossom and vanilla. The palate brings coffee cake, toasted vanilla, nutmeg and cocoa, and the finish turns to orange spice, butterscotch, raisins and a dusting of chocolate.
It is presented in a cream and blue gift box, and with its single-vintage pedigree it makes a remarkable gift for a cognac collector or a birthday or anniversary in 2000.
