Scapegrace Classic is a premium small-batch dry gin from New Zealand, classically citrus and super smooth, made with 12 botanicals and bottled at 84.4 proof (42.2% ABV).
Scapegrace is another word for a rogue or scoundrel, and the New Zealand distillery brings that spirit to a modern, artisanal gin that combines the structure of a London Dry with a contemporary production approach. The striking bottle is inspired by an antique genever bottle. Scapegrace is small-batch, pot-still distilled in Canterbury, New Zealand, from a wheat-based neutral spirit and pristine water from the Southern Alps.
The recipe calls for 12 botanicals: juniper, coriander, nutmeg, cardamom, lemon peel, orange peel, orris root, cinnamon, cassia bark, angelica, clove and liquorice. Together they create a balanced aromatic profile in which the classic dry, resinous imprint of juniper meets bright citrus and warm spice.
Lemon and predominantly orange peel shine through, with juniper and orange at the forefront and warm spice from nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon and clove layered beneath. The result is a vibrant, aromatic gin that is smooth enough for newcomers and complex enough for connoisseurs.
Remarkably smooth, it is easy to sip simply over ice with an orange twist. Extremely versatile, it is made for a Gin & Tonic: build a glass with ice, add the gin and 150ml of premium tonic water, and garnish with a slice of orange to echo the citrus. It also shines in a Martini or a Negroni.
