Sextro Rye Red Label Cask Strength is the barrel-proof version of Sextro's Red Label rye, bottled without dilution at 102 proof (51% ABV) so nothing gets rounded off on the way out of the warehouse.

The story begins with a grandmother. In 1932, the Sextro family took in a bootlegger who hid in the attic of their family farm in Carroll County, Iowa. He taught Lorine Sextro to distil, and she made her first small-batch 100% rye whiskey. It was not until the 1980s that she revealed her bootlegging past and her secret recipe to a family friend, and in 2015 Sextro Rye began producing whiskey with Grandma Lorine's recipe and Prohibition distilling methods. Even her children had no idea; her grandson joined the business in 2017 after reading about it in the news.

Sextro Rye is distilled in a patented, 1920s-style copper pot still from 100% natural ingredients grown in Carroll and Crawford Counties in Iowa, and matured in charred American oak.

Red Label is built on a high rye content for a robust whiskey: caramel, baking spice and toasted oak with a hint of citrus peel on the nose, and rye spice, black pepper and cinnamon over vanilla, honey and dark chocolate on the palate, finishing long and warm. At cask strength, every one of those flavours is amplified.

With its bootlegger's story, it makes a memorable gift for rye fans.
