Shinobu Pure Malt Mizunara Oak Finish is a pure malt whisky from Niigata's Shinobu Distillery, hand-crafted by distiller Mr. Usami from carefully selected whiskies first matured in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks, then finished in precious Japanese Mizunara oak in Japan, bottled at 43% ABV.
Niigata is known in Japan for its three white treasures of snow, rice and sake, and for its naturally pure water. Shinobu means forbearance in Japanese, the spirit a distiller needs to make quality whisky. The result is a unique fusion of flavours, dynamic on the palate yet smooth and easy to drink. It is all natural, with no colouring, and non-chill filtered.
Telltale aromas of candied orange peel, toffee, sweet smoke and toasted hazelnuts are joined by herbal tea and spice. The palate is surprisingly mellow and fruit-forward, with vanilla, citrus and smoky oak, and the finish is medium, sweet and woody, with mint and pepper.
With its striking label, it makes a memorable gift.
Enjoy it neat or with a splash of water.
Mizunara is a rare Japanese oak, prized by whisky makers for the sandalwood, incense and spice notes it can impart.
Mizunara oak has been used in Japan since the 1930s and is now sought after by whisky makers around the world.
A pure malt is made entirely from malted barley whiskies, with no grain whisky in the blend.
Non-chill filtered whisky keeps its natural oils, giving a fuller texture and mouthfeel.
