Siete Leguas Añejo is an additive-free tequila from one of Mexico's most respected distilleries in Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco, made from 100% estate-grown blue Weber agave, aged about 24 months in American oak and bottled at 40% ABV.
The agave is slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens, crushed by both tahona and roller mill to balance earthy texture and sweetness, and double distilled in small copper pot stills before its long rest in oak.
At rest, it offers red fruits steeped in wood without losing the cooked agave; swirled, soft vanilla meets raisin, quince, orange, peach and red fruit, with light chocolate, coffee and maple syrup. Silky and weighty on the palate, it brings maple, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, prune and cherry, a touch of cinnamon and clove and fresh traces of spearmint and chamomile, with a long aftertaste of dried and red fruit.
A refined classic from the Highlands, it makes a fine gift for tequila connoisseurs.
Enjoy it neat to appreciate its depth.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
