Skorpios 1618 Special Edition Year of the Snake is a limited extra añejo tequila released to celebrate the 2025 Lunar New Year. Presented in a striking red, coiled snake-shaped decanter, it was aged in ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in former Cognac barrels, and it is bottled at 40% ABV. Only 888 bottles were produced worldwide.
In Chinese tradition the snake symbolises wisdom, wealth and prosperity, and the number eight is considered among the luckiest of all, which makes 888 bottles a fitting run for a Lunar New Year release. The decanter itself is a sculpture: a glossy red serpent coiled upright, its head raised, with a golden knot and a string of coins hanging from its body.
Skorpios 1618 makes its tequila from single-estate agave grown for seven to ten years in Amatitán, Jalisco, in the heart of the tequila valley. The extra añejo is aged in bourbon barrels and French oak, and for this special edition the finish in former Cognac barrels adds a smooth, layered complexity on top of the cooked agave and oak.
Made for collectors and celebrations alike, the Year of the Snake edition is a remarkable gift for the Lunar New Year, a birthday in the Year of the Snake, or anyone who collects rare tequila decanters.
