Skorpios 1618 Joven is a blend of fresh blanco tequila and 22 to 24 month aged añejo, presented in Skorpios' striking turquoise bottle sculpted as a rising serpent. Made under NOM 1522 in Amatitán, Jalisco, from single-estate agaves grown for seven to ten years, it is bottled at 40% ABV with no added flavourings.
Skorpios takes a traditional, artisanal approach. The deep-rooted agaves are cooked in brick ovens, roller crushed and fermented in the open air with deep well and natural spring water, then double distilled in copper pots. The añejo portion is aged in American oak barrels before being married with the blanco, so the joven combines the brightness of unaged agave with the depth of oak.
The result is smooth and complex, with a distinct and traditional taste. Flavours of citrus, wood, orange, earth and olives are woven together, leading to a buttery finish. Clean, earthy and smooth.
The turquoise serpent decanter is the colourful companion to Skorpios' gold añejo and red extra añejo snakes, and it makes an eye-catching gift and a fine introduction to the brand.
Serve it neat, on the rocks or in an elevated cocktail; its blend of fresh and aged tequila makes it unusually versatile.
