Slipknot No. 9 Reserve is a blend of four- to five-year-old straight rye and straight bourbon, mashed, fermented, distilled and aged at Cedar Ridge Distillery in Iowa, bottled at 99 proof (49.5% ABV).
Slipknot and Cedar Ridge Distillery are both born and raised in Iowa, and they collaborated on No. 9 Whiskey, which gets extra spice from its rye content alongside Iowa corn. The Reserve's mash bill is 51% corn, 35% malted rye and 14% malted barley, and it is bottled stronger than the original 90 proof No. 9.
It brings toasted oak, warm baking spice and caramel sweetness on the nose, with rich whiskey character and rye spice on the palate.
A must for Slipknot fans and whiskey drinkers alike, it makes a fun gift.
Pour it neat, over a large cube, or into a whiskey-forward cocktail.
American whiskey covers a wide range of styles, from bourbon and rye to single malts and light whiskeys, and independent blenders and small producers have made it one of the most exciting categories in spirits.
Straight whiskey must be aged at least two years in new charred oak and bottled with nothing added but water; blending a straight rye with a straight bourbon combines rye spice with corn sweetness.
Malted rye, used here in place of plain rye, gives a softer, breadier spice, while a high share of malted barley adds body and a cereal richness.
Cedar Ridge, in Swisher, Iowa, distils its whiskey from grain to glass, using corn grown in the state.
